Carpenter Ants

An infestation of carpenter ants can be difficult to detect, and potentially dangerous due to the fact that they are prone to burrowing into wooden structures, which can compromise the structural stability of a building and put its occupants at risk of injury. Many people can have a carpenter ant infestation and not even be aware of it, which is why it is important to recognize the signs, and call Conquest Pest Control to immediately take care of the problem.

CARPENTER ANT INFO

A Carpenter Ant is roughly half an inch to three quarters of an inch long and has six legs. Like their name suggests, they are known for carving through wood in order to create their nest. Carpenter Ants come in a few different colours such as black and red, which makes it difficult to identify them even when you find one in your home or office. Most Carpenter Ants prefer to live in wet or moldy wood, due to the fact that they need to remain close to a water source to survive. Since they are so small, they can easily enter a home or commercial building through a crack in the foundation or around doors and windows.

SIGNS OF ANT INFESTATION

If you think you may have Carpenter Ants living in your home, there are ways to confirm their presence without having to open up your walls. As stated above, many Carpenter Ants will enter your home or property through a crack in a window or foundation, and prefer moldy or moist areas to begin their nests. If you are beginning to notice cracks forming on the surface around your windows, doors or concrete foundation, where ants can be regularly seen entering and leaving your home, there may be a chance that some water damage has begun to form inside your walls, and Carpenter Ants are already there.

ANT PREVENTION METHOD

Make sure to seal off any cracks around your windows doors, as well as any cracks or splits in your foundation. You should also make sure that there are no tree branches that are touching your home, as Carpenter Ants are known to climb over trees onto roofs and into buildings through small spaces in a home’s roof ventilation system. Also, if you have noticed any water damage on the floors, ceiling or the walls of your home, be sure to have it fixed as soon as possible, before any Carpenter Ants take up residence in your home.
